Wordy Wednesday and a Picture

"Everyday may not be a good day, but there's something good in every day!" Author Unknown

This is a crazy week and I need this quote to remind myself that although it seems like life is crazy there is something good even when I think may day is going bad.

My friend took the following picture and I played with it in Photoshop Elements. Love my sweet(although she got in trouble at school today for not finishing her work and drawing on the floor) girl.

Make it Monday

So I totally missed this last week and am pretty shocked I'm doing it this week.

Most of my stuff for this week is going to involve school projects.
50 cards for PTA, to thank people for coming to our meeting
Get through week and Stampede(fall festival, this is going to take most of my energy this week)
Some Christmas photo card samples.
Edit pictures(took a break for a while and reconnected with PSE and realized how much I love it)
3 sets of Christmas cards
photo of Halloween card set and post on etsy
Make more Halloween card sets
Halloween tags
Halloween banner
Get out Halloween decorations.

What are you making or doing this week?

Take some time to enjoy the weather, hopefully it will be as gorgeous as what ours is supposed to be.

7 on Sunday

Okay, it's really going to be 9 on Sunday in honor of this guy:
My sweet boy is 9 today, so I'm going to do 9 things about him.

1. LOVES baseball more than most anything in the world.

2. Loves and is extremely good at Math. So much it scares me.

3. Is covered in scrapes and bumps and bruises. Including the ones on his face. He decided to kiss the sidewalk.

4. Misses his sister Dakota every single day of his life and is not shy about talking about her.

5. Thinks his Uncle Jake and Bubba Byron are the greatest people in the world.

6. Is really a good brother to his sister Audrey. Although she drives him crazy most of the time, he will protect her like crazy if needed(and it's going to be needed as she gets older).

7. Has a major sweet tooth. There is not a day that goes by that he does not want dessert.

8. Is EXTREMELY competitive. Is constantly setting goals and doing whatever he has to, to reach those goals. He sets goals for pretty much everything in his life.

9. Has NO FEAR of getting up in front of the entire school and speaking. Thanks in part to "The Leader in Me" which is a program his school started doing last year. It is a school based version of "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People."

Dart, no matter how big you get you will always be my baby boy. Hope you had the best birthday ever! Enjoy every piece of your pumpkin roll cake you eat.

In other news I finally got some more items added to my etsy shop. If you are looking for handmade cards especially please take a look. Pink Owl Crafts and Design

If I can make it through this week I will be happy. This Saturday is the Stallion Stampede at Dart and Audrey's school. It is our biggest fundraiser of the year. I'm hoping to get all my volunteers set in the next day or so. Wish me luck!!

Must get through....

This coming week. October 2nd is the BIG fundraiser at Dart and Audrey's school and I am co-chair of the committee as well as volunteer coordinator for it. Working like crazy to get volunteers arranged. Also working on getting volunteers for teachers to help with folders, copies, etc, and also working on room parent coordinating. Good thing I love coordinating.

Working on a few things in between for fun. Got a ton of stuff ready to go in my etsy shop, just need to get the pictures edited and descriptions done.

Kids had no school today and I had grand plans of getting a lot of this done, but we went and picked apples for the Buddy Packs at their school and then had to go handle the Sam's Club card for PTA also. By the time we got all that done and got stuff for dinner all I've done is work on room parent stuff.

Dart took a face first dive into the sidewalk earlier tonight. He's sporting a nice fat lip. Wonder how it will look for his birthday on Sunday. Can't believe my baby boy is going to be 9 in just a couple of days.

I am hoping to be back tomorrow for a few things, but if not I'm under a pile of papers I'm sure. Posting next week will be very scarce I'm sure, but maybe I can find a few minutes this weekend to pre-write some posts and schedule them to go up. Off to get caught up on all my tv shows I've missed this week with PTA and baseball. Glee is first on my list!

7 on Sunday

Owls! I love owls. Not so much the realistic looking owls, but the cuter ones. I love them so much in fact I named my business after them...Pink Owl Crafts and Designs. So my 7 on Sunday this week is all about owls, mostly owl products I would love to own.

1. This stamp set by Hero Arts
found at scrapbook.com

2. This fabric
found in a google search

3. This reusable bag would be so awesome to have:
found here

4. I'm not a big necklace kind of girl, but I would so wear this pendant:
found here

5. This hat! I would so wear this hat while doing the Walking School Bus.
found here

6. No clue what I would make with this fabric, but it is cute:
found here

7. This pendant. Maybe I'm becoming a necklace girl.
found here

So not only do I have an obsession with owls, I also have an obsession with etsy.com, where most of these were found. I love etsy. All handmade stuff. Thinking I will be doing lots of Christmas shopping from etsy this year.

What I'm doing at Midnight!

photo by ricstigh found on photobucket
At midnight tonight I will be checking in volunteers at the Mid-Missouri Race for the Cure. Because MU has a night game tonight and because the race route is areas in which people will be tailgating before and after the game there will be volunteers out all night picking up trash. I will be spending my time checking in these volunteers and other volunteers who are getting stuff ready.

I'm excited about doing this. Even though sleep sounds good and it may be raining on us, I'm more than happy to donate a little of my time to such a worthy cause. Good luck to all those that are running/walking tomorrow!

Going Ons

So I last updated this in June, hard to believe it's been that long. Our summer was insanely busy to say the least. We spent all but 2 weeks of our summer at the baseball fields. I love baseball so it wasn't all that bad, but wow! We are still spending at least 3 days a week at the baseball fields.

I have some very exciting stuff getting ready to happen with Pink Owl. I have been working like crazy on cards. Hard to believe it's almost the holiday season! I'm so excited about all the different ideas, now if I could just find an extra 24 hours in each day.

I just finished designing my business cards and am in the process of printing them as I type this. That is if my printer decides it wants to work correctly. UGH! They are pretty simple but I LOVE them.

Speaking of simple, part of the delay in updating this was because I was spending my time thinking about my style and how I wanted to brand my company. It's been exciting and is still an ongoing process, but I am having a blast. I was struggling when I would sit down to create and finally decided that the reason I was struggling was because I was trying to create something that was not me. I was trying to create something that was way to cluttered and complex for my style. Once I started really exploring what I loved and what inspired me creating has been so much easier.

Just a few things I've created recently:
These are 3x3 cards. Will be in my Etsy shop by Tuesday.

Made this for a girl in Dart's class. Love finding new ways to incorporate the money into the design. Behind the money is a black ribbon so it will still be pretty to look at even after she spends the money.

Will be back tomorrow to share more. Need to take a nap as I'm volunteering at the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure tonight from midnight to at least 3am. Will be checking in other volunteers that are coming to clean the race area after all the MU tailgaters are gone.

Make it Monday

Right now my make it Monday list is a lot of "finish....." Trying to get some of these projects I have started finished up so I can move on to new stuff. Problem is I keep coming up with stuff I want to do so I stop to make one and then get all excited and want to make more. So my plan for this week is finish a project make one of a new idea, repeat, repeat, repeat. I have been a little better about sketching or writing down my ideas instead of making one right away.

This weeks list of Make it:
Finish snowman cards I started
Make more Halloween cards(so many ideas for those)
Design business cards(I've decided I'm making them myself, not getting them printed, at least for now)
Finish monster cards started
Finish Halloween tags started
Make Thank You card for a friend
Start sketching some ideas for Christmas cards

And because it's been a few posts since I've posted a picture:
This little guy was a crowd favorite at the Omaha Zoo when we were there this summer. People were throwing food into the fish and some of the monkey's. He climbed down to the log he is on and would toss his arm up in the air and wait for someone to throw him a piece of bread, eat it and then arm back up waiting for more. I think Audrey could have spent the rest of the day watching them. He's being used in a Christmas gift!

7 on Sunday

My best friend and I are slowly growing apart.

Lots of creating done this weekend and I can't wait to show it off.

So I want to start doing a recurring thing on Sunday called 7 on Sunday. Will vary as to what it is, could be 7 things I find inspiring, 7 things on my wish list, or 7 totally random thoughts.

This week will be random.

1. Had a busy weekend that involved Dart tail gating at the MU game, going to a birthday party, Dart going to the MU game(and what a great game it was), me having a PTA meeting at Olive Garden and baseball practice.

2. Tomorrow we start the Walking School Bus. Kids and I are very excited. Even though we don't live close to our school we are still joining. Looking forward to the exercise early in the morning.

3. Lots of ideas rolling around in my head regarding Pink Owl Crafts. Working on business cards, packaging ideas and so much more.

4. So happy that football now counts. Although I think Detroit was robbed today and I was cheering for the Bears.

5. Getting very excited for fall and the cooler temps and the smells. Already burning my pumpkin candle. Now if the gas station would hurry up and get pumpkin spice cappuccinos back.

6. Although I am not blowing my nose near as much as I was a few days ago, my ribs are hurting like crazy from coughing. Really ready for allergy season to be over.

7. Finally got all caught up on HGTV's Design Star thanks to Hulu.com. Although I really wanted Casey to win it all, was very glad Emily ended up winning. She really made me think about my style and why I'm drawn to the things that inspire me. Since I've put more thought into this I have found that creating is so much easier. Now to just catch up on Project Runway. I'm way behind so no spoilers please.

Back tomorrow with Make it Monday.

4 Simple Goals

So I'm borrowing this idea from Elsie. Simply make 4 simple goals to complete before 2011. I need something to get me moving and a little more focused on some of my bigger goals for 2010.

1. Water: quite simply drink more of it. Lots more of it.

2. Create: I have lists and lists of projects to finish and projects to do. I would love to finish the year with the ones that are currently on my list to finish done. I have so many projects started, but not finished and I want them done. Some of them are Christmas gifts that are a year or so in the making. I also want to complete 10 projects on my to do list. Oh and get lots done for my etsy shop. All of this should keep me out of trouble for a while.

3. Photos: Get all of my summer pictures edited and printed. Edit all fall pictures. Clean up external hard drive. My external hard drive is a mess. By mess I mean lots of pictures saved twice, pictures on there that need to be deleted because they are horrible. I really want to get them cleaned up and edited so I can get them printed.

4. Read: I have rediscovered my love of reading, and with it a new love, non-fiction. I am picky about my non-fiction though. I am currently reading Craft, Inc.: Turn Your Creative Hobby into a Business and loving it. I have been working hard at updating my goodreads list and getting rid of my written lists of books to read. I love that you can print lists of what you want to read. I want to knock off 6 more books on my list before the end of the year.

My brother's girlfriends sister, Carsten and Audrey waiting on my brother's cross country race to start. Carsten is one of Audrey's favorite people as she gave Audrey her HUGE Barbie house and a ton of Barbie stuff that she was done with. It's at my mom's house so Audrey has lots of Barbie stuff to play with there. Audrey had played with the Barbie house at the 4th of July party we went to at their house and loved it, a few days later my brother came home with all the stuff.

Un-official end to summer

So with Labor Day weekend upon us and what most call the Un-official end to summer, I'm looking forward to fall.

We have a busy Labor Day weekend ahead of us. My sister and her fiance are having their engagement party this weekend. We will also be celebrating Dart's birthday, which isn't until September 26th, but this will likely be the last weekend we are in KC until probably Thanksgiving so we decided this would be the best time to do it. Hope to get to Santa Cali Gon days as well while we are there. Busy busy busy.

I'm hoping at some point life slows down, but I really don't think it's going to. At least for the most part it's all fun good stuff. Just really looking forward to a weekend when we can chill.

Right now I'm reading Craft, Inc.: Turn Your Creative Hobby into a Business right now and totally loving it. I usually just get my books from the library, but this may end up being one I buy. It is so full of information and has me feeling excited and inspired with regards to my business. I am constantly thinking about branding and packaging and all that other fun stuff now. I really want to be able to dive into all the ideas I have swirling in my head, but for now I'm learning and sketching and drawing and writing. I think even if you just wanted to make a little money with your hobby, this book would be a perfect read. For those interested in going further there is also a little planner that goes along with this book called Craft Inc. Business Planner. The author also has another book out called Creative, Inc.: The Ultimate Guide to Running a Successful Freelance Business.  I haven't read it yet, but it's on my list.

I hope everyone has a great Labor Day weekend. I hope to be back more next week.

At The Moment

Listening: Wipeout on tv. LOVE this show!

eating: nothing. getting ready to eat dinner.

drinking: finishing a coke I've had for several hours. It's getting pretty warm.

wearing: MU pj pants and a black tank

feeling: stressed, but really pretty good. Lots going on right now.

weather: currently under a thunderstorm watch. Wind is picking up and it's cloudy. Oh and baseball was canceled for tonight.

wanting: a weekend at home with nothing to do. It's looking like the end of October, first of November before that happens.

needing: a weekend at home with nothing to do. And a few clones while we are at it. One to be mom, one to be PTA VP/Volunteer coordinator, one to be Pink Owl Designs designer, and one to sleep.

thinking: about all the things I want to make between now and Sept 27th for my etsy shop. One of the Columbia bloggers is doing a feature post on my that is going to include a giveaway!  Free stuff!

enjoying:  Wipeout and the laughter it brings. The fact that Dart is feeling better, he came home from school yesterday with a 103 fever. An evening at home with no place to go.

wondering: how painful it is when they wipeout on Wipeout. Seriously I think we say Ouch! more than anything while watching this.

Hope to be back later with a massive update on what is going on in my life.
